WASHINGTON DC LIFESTYLE PHOTOGRAPHY: MARK & SUSAN IN OLD TOWNE
Quaint architecture, cobblestone streets lined with historic residences, a sailing marina and a well manicured park bordering the Potomac River make Old Towne Alexandria a perfect choice for location photography.
I met Mark and Susan on a warm weekend afternoon near Studio Union 206, where I was working that day. We met at Chadwicks, one of my favorite local watering holes, where good food and good company are always in rich supply. Mark and Susan had come from Pennsylvania to join me for an afternoon session on location in the DC area. When we were discussing the right place to do this session, they described a look and feel that fit perfectly with Old Towne Alexandria. I always enjoy sessions in nearby Washington, DC, with the backdrop of historic sites and monumental architecture, but Old Towne Alexandria has an intimate feel and a unique character that makes it a wonderful setting for location photography.
Like many of the couples I work with, this was Mark and Susan’s first session with a professional photographer.
After years of working with clients new to being in front of the camera, I have developed a simple routine to put my clients at ease as we work our way into the session. A brief verbal tutorial, a few posing tips, an overview of how the session should go and we’re off. We start just around the corner from my studio. Mark is nervous, but Susan is so relaxed and composed, not to mention beautiful, that she soon gets Mark to chill.
Soon, Mark and Susan are into the flow we’re off!
A few weeks after this session, a staffer from Visit Alexandria contacted me about using images from this session for their visitors guide. We sorted out the details and the images from the session Washington DC Lifestyle Photography: Mark and Susan in Old Towne became part of their site and their guide to visiting Alexandria.
